Teesside
The Teesside area covers a wide area of the north-east of England, including Yarm, Stockton and Middlesbrough, which are located on the River Tees, as well as Billingham, Thornaby, Hartlepool and Redcar.
Teesside's location has lead to the area acquiring a rich history over the years; Saxons, Romans, Vikings and Scots have all invaded the area, with the River Tees actually being used as a border between England and Scotland for a period of time. Over the last two centuries however, Teesside grew to become a major area of industry, combining shipping, steel making, chemical manufacture and mining.
Recent years have seen heavy investment and redevelopment in the area, including major expansion to the University of Teesside and its subsequent recognition as a serious player in the UK's academic scene.
